| The Government of Belize, spanning the stewardship of two political parties, identified the need to reform the Public Health Services Sector. Following in-depth analysis of the sector, a comprehensive Health Sector Reform Plan was developed and is now being implemented. One of the strategies for the implementation of this plan is the decentralisation of the operations of the Ministry of Health, by transforming the responsibility for bodies subject managerial discipline. This led to the creation of "autonomous body" known as the Southern Health Region with its own management structure, responsibilities and accountability for the delivery of healthcare. |

Telehealth – A milestone for MOH was met 29/5/2008 with collaboration from local (BTL) and international (Intervol) NGOs. Telehealth is the delivery of health-related services and information via telecommunications technologies. Telehealth delivery could be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone, or as sophisticated as using videoconferencing to between providers at facilities in two countries, or even as complex as robotic technology. |
