The Government of Belize, spanning the stewardship of two political parties, identified the need to reform the Public Health Services Sector. Following in-depth analysis of the sector, a comprehensive Health Sector Reform Plan was developed and is now being implemented. One of the strategies for the implementation of this plan is the decentralisation of the operations of the Ministry of Health, by transforming the responsibility for bodies subject managerial discipline. This led to the creation of "autonomous body" known as the Southern Health Region with its own management structure, responsibilities and accountability for the delivery of healthcare.

We provide comprehensive health services within the Southern region, under he principals of excellence, respect and compassion. Our organisation will constantly strive to maintain a process of quality improvement in the delivery of curative care and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Mission
